The Main / Classical Trail
Start at Petra Main Gate
You will enter the Petra Archaeological Park from the main gate at the Visitors Centre. The walk from this gate to the entrance of the Siq takes 15 minutes at a gentle pace (downhill), passing the Obelisk Tomb and Bab As-Siq Triclinium.
Walk Through the Siq
Walking through the Siq itself at a leisurely pace will take ½ an hour. Don’t forget to look out for the Nabataean water channel on your left and the Nabataean ceramic water pipes on your right.
Keep your eyes open for the Cameleer carving on the left side of the Siq as you walk towards the Treasury (Al Khazanah). If you look more carefully just beyond, you will see another set of camels heading upwards. Notice the many niches all along the Siq representing the different deities.
The Treasury (Al Khazanah)
You will be given 10–20 minutes to take in the amazing Treasury (Al Khazanah) and take lots of photos.
Main Monuments of Petra
After exploring the Treasury, we will continue towards the Roman Theatre, the Royal Tombs, and the Royal Court. We will then walk down the Colonnaded Street towards Qasr al Bint, passing by the Nymphaeum, the Great Temple, the Roman Shops, and the Temenos Gate.
End of Guided Tour
Our tour will conclude at the Petra Basin Restaurant. You are free to further explore Petra on your own as there is still much more to see and do.
Optional Exploration
For those feeling energetic, you may continue to the Monastery by climbing the 860 steps. Alternatively, you can walk back to the Visitors Centre via the Temple of the Winged Lion, the Ridge Church, the Blue Church, and the Royal Tombs (Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, Palace Tomb, and the Tomb of Sextius Florentinus) before exiting the site the same way you entered.
